Helping refugees and asylum seekers learn English
So through university I’ve got involved with this project which is run by STAR (STudent Action for Refugees), they run English conversation classes to try and help the refugees and asylum seekers improve their English.
As far as I’m aware it’s completely free, all the students volunteer and we all get a free hot meal :)

That awkward moment...
When someone from school who you were best friends with at about 13, who doesn’t know you became Muslim, turns out to be in the same seminar class as you at university and you’re there in hijab and abaya like “hey :$”
Right imagine the chances of that happening, over 250 students of French and me and her just so happen to be put in the same seminar group of around 10...
Parents: Why don't you come downstairs and socialize with the entire family?
Me: *goes downstairs*
Me: *gets insulted by entire family*

Rambles around my new city
Yesterday me and one of my flatmates decided to walk in the direction of the mosque, (which is only 10 minutes walk away, amazing!) because we knew there would be businesses owned by Muslims nearby to it.
We basically just found food shops but they were amazing! Shops with rows and rows of imported Arab food, all the cans had Arabic writing, ingredients that you can’t normally buy here,...

Living with Muslims
Al7amdolellah, Allah has really blessed me with some wonderful flatmates mashAllah, I am living with four sisters, it is just wow! As a revert I have never lived with Muslims before, it has always been me as the only one in the house practising, it makes such a difference to be living with Muslims, seriously!

I’m at uni, my parents left about an hour ago and now I’m all alone for the first time!
In sha Allah I’m off to university tomorrow morning leaving my home and family 250 miles behind. My feelings are mixed, my eyes keep welling up, my family are here so I’m trying not to let the tears flow. Time for a new chapter in my life.

Been to the doctor and been diagnosed with labrinthitis, I’m not 100% that it’s the right diagnosis but the doctor knows better than me. I’ve been given some medication so in sha Allah I’ll feel better in a few days and be ready to start university.
I’ve watched an entire season of Bondi Rescue today :S I’m still ill, my main problem is dizziness. Please keep me in your prayers.

Something that bugs me is Muslims joking about things being haram when they aren’t and even calling themselves and their friends it, “OMG you’re so haram!” Why would you want to label yourself as haram? How is that funny?

Getting out of bed to go to the bathroom and make wudu has become a mission itself. Sitting or standing pushes me to the point of being physically sick. Thank God that we can pray laying down. Please keep me in your prayers, we really do take our health for granted.

Sometimes situations can make you wonder if the ones that supposedly care about you really do. Everyone has their own interests at heart, what they’d like you to do, what they expect of you without thinking about what you would like.
