What can I eat at suhoor?
What do you guys have? I’ve been having pasta or falafel sandwichs and some yoghurt but I’m getting bored of it. It has to be something that tastes ok cold because I have to prepare it beforehand as I can’t use the kitchen at suhoor time. Give me some ideas please?

Raḩmah – Not Just ‘Mercy’
By Adnan Majid
Bismilláhi r-Raḩmáni r-Raḩeem (In the Name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficent)
As the Qur’an’s first verse, the Bismillah is our gateway to divine revelation and our companion when beginning any activity. Its first part defines a Muslim identity—to approach all matters “in the name of God.” And its ending, listing two of God’s names, beautifully repeats the...

Palestinian products in the UK
I’ve just discovered Yaffa Palestinian Products
Yaffa is a UK company promoting Palestinian products. We source our products from the occupied Palestinian territories and are continually increasing the product range. With the Palestinian farmers always in mind, our company increases trade links between Palestine and the UK, helping the Palestinian economy to thrive.

Some Common Mistakes in Ramadan
welcomeramadan:
Following are some common mistakes in Ramadan:
1. Taking Ramadan as a ritual
For many of us Ramadan has lost its spirituality and has become more of a ritual than a form of Ibaadah. We fast from morning to night just because everyone around us is fasting too. We forget that it’s a time to purify our hearts and our souls from all evil….we forget to make dua, forget to beseech...
deviantdiya:
shout out to us reverts who make our own fantastic iftars because our moms don’t wait that late to eat dinner and hate that we fast.
YES! Except she is actually ok about me fasting this year, al7amdolellah.

Returning to the Qur'an
The relationship between us and the Qur’an is undoubtedly of great importance; therefore, it is strange that it is this relationship which we often neglect.
I have a theory as to why we tend not to focus on the Qur’an: we are drawn towards controversy. The Qur’an and its sciences have no such divisive opinions. Human beings love controversy. I believe the reason we tend to argue back and forth...
As we enter this blessed month of mercy, I give you this advice to myself first,...

Effectively Planning Your Du`a’
If I told you that I could give you whatever you wished and allowed you to have one week’s time to decide what you wanted, would you plan for it? I believe you would.
We plan for the things that are important in life, for the things we want most. From job interviews, to choosing spouses, to picking out furniture for the house, we plan for things that are important.
So what about...

Ramadan, the Qur'an, and Us
The month of Ramadan is a time when we, despite the struggle, keep ourselves away from that which is otherwise permissible and a necessity in our life. For the past eleven months, at some level we have given preference to our physical self, in terms of nourishment, than our soul. We’ve done things we shouldn’t have, we’ve probably neglected some duties towards Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala (exalted is...

Objectives of Fasting and Ramadan
Discussing the objectives of our actions is an important thing because to do so is to discuss the actions in a true and deep way. It is possible that if we do not know why we are doing certain things, we could miss the entire point behind the action itself. The Prophet ﷺ said about this concept, “Maybe a fasting person gains nothing from his fast except hunger and thirst. And maybe a person who...

My non-Muslim parents and Ramadan, a two year...
So far this Ramadan I have been really amazed by my parents acceptance of me partaking in the fasting. You can read about what they thought about it last year here, basically I was told that I was stupid. This year has been really different, when I told my mum that Ramadan was approaching she didn’t make any comments about it, only to ask that I prepare my own food and wash my dishes and the...

Ramadan: Raining with Mercy
Imagine for a moment that it’s raining. It is pouring, in fact. And imagine that you are inside your house, watching as it falls. But imagine that there is something very different about this rain. It is unlike any other you’ve ever seen. On this day, it is not raining water. It is raining something much more precious to you. Imagine that on this day it is raining hundred dollar bills.
What would...

My mum on suhoor
“Is this your idea of fasting then, eating all night?”
For the record I in sha Allah will not be, I have prepared a sandwich and some fruit but I do have a lot of drinks. This shows a non-Muslim perspective on Ramadan though; binging and overeating during the hours we can eat kind of makes us look a bit hypocritical.

7 Tips to Control Our Appetites in Ramadan
It’s time to break your fast. Isn’t it a wonderful feeling? Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace and blessing be upon him) says, “The fasting person experiences two joys: one when he breaks his fast, and one when he meets His Lord” (Muslim). That first joy is something we can all attest to. Especially with the long, 16 hour fast, it feels great to finally quench your thirst and get some satisfying food in...

Is exchanging "salams" easier in a non-Muslim...
We are told:
Abu Hurayra that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “By the One in whose hand my soul is, you will not enter the Garden until you submit. You will not submit until you love one another. Extend the greeting to one another and you will love one another. Beware of hatred, for it is the razor. I do not tell you that it shaves the hair, but it shaves away...

An idea of something you can do when reading the...
Make two lists, one for all the things we are told we should do and another for all the things we are told to avoid. As you progress through the Koran you can constantly add points to each list. In sha Allah at the end you will be left with an easy list and reference guide of things to aim to do and to aim to avoid.
In sha Allah I’ll be doing this during Ramadan.
zaytouneh:
So a White convert posts about her troubles being a White convert… Immediately, people tell her to basically check her privilege. That’s tumblr for you. Anyway, I don’t understand people who believe White privilege to be this unhindered, always constant, factor. It’s not. It is most definitely circumstantial.
I’m almost certain that White folk who hate Islam are not going to care...

Dilemmas - A muslima on the beach
İ’m writing this while I’m sitting on a beach in Corfu, Greece. A beautiful beach with clear blue water. I’m writing this as a memo on my phone, I haven’t been on tumblr since I left the UK, in sha Allah I’ll publish this when I return. I love swimming, it is my favourite sport and for more than three years it has also been my profession, I teach children to swim....

I'm home!
I’ve been hanging out in this beautiful place in Greece for the last week but tonight I have returned to the UK :(
Today has been a really long and weird day, my flight was delayed by five hours and I have gone from being in 38 degree heat searching for air conditioning to 13 degrees and raining in London and having to turn on the central heating. I’ll write more later in sha Allah...
